Accommodation rental in France: What is a Studio, F1, T1, F2, T2, F3, T3, F4, T4 …
It can be pretty hard to understand the meaning of the French accommodations classifieds ads. Many strange words like studio, f1, t1, f2, t2, f3, t3, f4, t4 are used in the French accommodation classified ads and you probable do not get the true meaning of those words…
By reading this article you will get a clearer image of what does a studio mean, what does a t1 mean, what does a f1 mean, what does a t1bis mean and so on!
To make it simple all those words « studio » « f1 » « t1 » « f2 » « t2 » « f3 » « t3 » « f4 » « t4 » … refer to the number(s) of room(s) available in the accommodation.
The accommodation room(s) number in France is always indicated excluding:
- The Kitchen
- The Bathroom / the Shower room
- The Toilettes
The indicated room number in an accommodation classified ads refer generally to the living room + the bedroom(s).
The Studio: A studio is made of only one room that is use as a living room + as the bedroom + and as the kitchen. The bathroom or the shower room must be separated from the rest of the room.
The F1 / T1: The letter F means Function. The letter T means Type. To sum up, the letter F or T describe the same thing. An accommodation labeled by the F1 or T1 is made of the same number of rooms.
A F1/T1 is made of a main room with a separate kitchen or with an open-plan kitchen and with a separate bathroom/shower room.
The F1 / T1 bis: The main accommodation room is big enough to be separated in two rooms or this main room has two definite places.
The F2 / T2: The F2/T2 is made of two main rooms with a separate kitchen or with an open-plan kitchen and with a separate bathroom/shower room.
The F3 / T3: The F3/T3 is made of three main rooms with a separate kitchen or with an open-plan kitchen and with a separate bathroom/shower room.
The F4 / T4: The F4/T4 is made of four main rooms with a separate kitchen or with an open-plan kitchen and with a separate bathroom/shower room.
The F5 / T5: The F5/T5 is made of five main rooms with a separate kitchen or with an open-plan kitchen and with a separate bathroom/shower room.
And so on…
N.B.: for all the accommodation type, studio, f1, t1, f2, t2, f3, t3, f4, t4…, the toilettes can be located in the bathroom or in a separate room of the accommodation.
The Bathroom (Oxford dictionary definition): A room containing a bathub (or shower) and a washbasin.
The Shower Room (Oxford dictionary definition): A room containing a shower (but not a bathub), and a washbasin.
